Thoughts about Catholic-Christian Mixers

Recently my Men’s Bible Study Group discussed the idea of meeting with other Christian based Bible Study Groups.  The purpose of such a meeting would be for (1) enhancing faith (2) finding like-minded projects (3) developing fellowship in Christ.

But being a Catholic comes with certain responsibilities such as finding Truth, Beauty and Love in all things.  Regarding Catholic-Christian Mixers, the Truth part is downright tough because as Catholics we will eventually get around to…

A Companion of the Cross

A Companion of the Cross

It was almost a year ago when I ran across an exhibition of relics on the internet that was being sponsored by a community of priests and brothers called “Companions of the Cross.” I don’t know why but at the time I was deeply drawn to them so I started looking over their site at http://www.companionscross.org/. I had been discerning a calling to join a lay apostolate for some time (year’s…

A NEW SPRING!

2012 has been pretty good so far and I am really looking forward to the moment when “real spring” shows itself in the buds of the trees and the new grasses. The wildflowers are blooming now so I can actually feel it right around the corner. My new projects though starting out slowly do show promise in the future and I do have many more things to accomplish this year but I must say that all in all I am comfortable with everything.

My biggest project though will be my small…

FOR ASH WEDNESDAY Suffering, My Role in the Mystical Body of Christ…

As a Catholic I have heard about suffering all of my life. I never though gave it any real thought outside of Christ’s Passion until I was diagnosed with cancer and really started feeling the pain of this horrible disease.

“Now I rejoice in my suffering for your sake, and in my flesh and I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of His body which is the Church, of which I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to…

Be Resolved to Defeating the Evil Among Us

Be Resolved to Commit Yourself to Defeating the Evil Among Us

In the manner you choose, do not sit idly by while society degrades.  The evildoers exploit public morality and common decency. Long-accepted standards of tradition and public civility are ridiculed every day by hedonists without any regard for the consequence. Once again, in your method of choice, subtle or not so, stand on principle.

Defend the Truth...Defend the Faith.

  Be Resolved to commit YOURSELF…

Becoming a Caregiver… Is it a Job or is it a Calling?

I remember back in 1997 my mother came over to the house and dropped off some groceries (she was always doing this) and told me that we needed to talk. After we had settled into a couple of recliners she told me, “I saw the doctor today and was told that I have lung cancer.” It was just like that, straight faced with no noticeable despair nothing. Me I just kind of stared at her wondering just what the hell she could possibly be talking about, CANCER? Who? After about a solid minute my mind…

Wednesday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time - Pray For A Steady Hand

Batman needed the Joker.

Superman needed Lex Luthor.

David needed Goliath.

If you have obstacles in your life today see them as opportunities to follow the Lord's will and grow as you overcome them.

Today's reading from 1 Samuel we see David had a steady hand as he slung the stone at Goliath.

Today's Psalm 144, "Blessed be the Lord, my rock." praises the Lord "who trains my hands for battle, my fingers for war."

In the…

My Personal Fight with Cancer, that Monster in the closet… Part 1 & 2

My Personal Fight with Cancer, that Monster in the closet… Part 1

I have been recently asked to share my experiences during the past year in my fight with pancreatic cancer and I must say first off that although I have had experience as a care giver to my mother who died of lung cancer I had no idea at all how to deal with what would be my own battle for life. When I was diagnosed I had been in the hospital for several days waiting for an answer to that…

Big Question for all of Christianity

For most of my 52 years I have loved reading the Word of God. It's history and it's simple life lessons reach far beyond any "self help" book I have ever read. I have allowed it to guide my thinking and my purpose for many years now and I regret my youth having been away from the Church following my own desires allowing myself to be guided by whim and happenstance, but now those days are in the past and I am comfortable with my life now having made my peace with both God and man. I do…

Big Bust Leads To Drug Bust (Avoid "Fake It Til You Make It)

There is no delete button on the internet.

The walls do have ears and eyes and recording devices and curious customs agents.

The world today is drawn to sincerity and reality and straight-shooting. If you seek to deliver value first to the right audience via the correct medium you will win.

Dan Kennedy calls it the "Market-Medium-Message" triangle.

If you try to take short cuts like the dingbat in the story below you will not be happy with the…

Parish Level Evangelization: Part 10

Now let’s talk about all the things that need to be done around the parish that don’t have a direct impact on the central purpose of the parish.  These are the support functions.  I can think of five of them, but I’m sure there are more.

Facility Management.  Does your parish rent out the hall for non-parish functions?  Are there rules to be enforced?  What is the money collected used for?

Maintenance.  How do you keep your buildings clean and…

The Lord's Prayer and the Rosary

Hi everyone – I was reading a magazine last night and found an interesting paragraph at the bottom of one of the pages.  Paraphrasing, the article stated that it has been found that saying the Lord’s Prayer makes us happier! They said that because the Lord’s Prayer covers every aspect of our lives, it impacts more of our brain and especially the areas that affect our mood in a positive way.  They ran a test and had one person saying the Lord’s Prayer, one person reciting a poem and one…
