A Companion of the Cross

A Companion of the Cross

It was almost a year ago when I ran across an exhibition of relics on the internet that was being sponsored by a community of priests and brothers called “Companions of the Cross.” I don’t know why but at the time I was deeply drawn to them so I started looking over their site at http://www.companionscross.org/. I had been discerning a calling to join a lay apostolate for some time (year’s…

A NEW SPRING!

Posted on March 23, 2012 at 8:03am 0 Comments

2012 has been pretty good so far and I am really looking forward to the moment when “real spring” shows itself in the buds of the trees and the new grasses. The wildflowers are blooming now so I can actually feel it right around the corner. My new projects though starting out slowly do show promise in the future and I do have many more things to accomplish this year but I must say that all in all I am comfortable with everything.

My biggest project though will be my small…

FOR ASH WEDNESDAY Suffering, My Role in the Mystical Body of Christ…

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 10:30am 0 Comments

As a Catholic I have heard about suffering all of my life. I never though gave it any real thought outside of Christ’s Passion until I was diagnosed with cancer and really started feeling the pain of this horrible disease.

“Now I rejoice in my suffering for your sake, and in my flesh and I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of His body which is the Church, of which I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to…

Becoming a Caregiver… Is it a Job or is it a Calling?

Posted on January 28, 2012 at 3:00am 0 Comments

I remember back in 1997 my mother came over to the house and dropped off some groceries (she was always doing this) and told me that we needed to talk. After we had settled into a couple of recliners she told me, “I saw the doctor today and was told that I have lung cancer.” It was just like that, straight faced with no noticeable despair nothing. Me I just kind of stared at her wondering just what the hell she could possibly be talking about, CANCER? Who? After about a solid minute my mind…

Bill,

Take some time to do some prospecting.  Take out a blank piece of paper and start writing.  Write down the name of every priest, deacon and religious that you know.  Then write down every DRE, Youth Minister and person you know that works in any capacity for a parish or diocese.
Then highlight the ones that are what we call "low hanging fruit".  That's the ones that we can be reasonably sure that they will be receptive to Lighthouse.  Younger pastors.  Eucharistic adoration.  Do they bring in speakers?  Do they have Latin Mass?  The more traditional or conservative parishes.  I think you know what I mean.
Your next step is to get appointments with the pastors of these parishes.  If you are friends or acquaintance with the pastor call and ask to meet him.  If your friend works for the pastor ask them to help you get a meeting with him.
Give your presentation in 20 minutes or less.  Let the pastor do most of the talking.  You are asking questions that lead through the prospectus.  If you're telling you're not selling.  Don't forget to ask for the sale.
Have you seen the Lent specials we have going on right now?  They will be a great help to you.  The one I like the best is getting a free display stand with the bulk order.  What I had in mind was a parish of about 500 families getting the 1000 CD bulk deal with the free kiosk display.  They distribute 500 or 600 CDs at Easter Masses and then do an exchange with the other 400.  At '9 for 10' they'd get 360 new CDs to stock the display stand.  It's a great way to get new parishes started out on the right track.
Call or e-mail directly if there's anything Mary or I can do for you.  My e-mail is stevies_dad@comcast.net  Mary's is ohiovalleylighthouse@comcast.net.
